Even for an extraterrestrial, things can go askew on a long road trip. All my life, I’ve believed that there has to be something else intelligent in our galaxy. Having spent so much time under star-filled skies and living in Nevada my whole life has only reaffirmed that suspicion. This scene was the perfect place to blend the vastness of space, the co-mingling of lifeforms, and the belief that something is out there.
Nevada is sometimes synonymous with UFO sightings and alien research, largely due to Area 51 and the mystery that shrouds it. To me, this photograph is quintessential to that. And so I submitted it to the 2026 Desert Companion magazine contest. I was excited when I learned it had been chosen as a potential winner. I didn’t win the Grand Prize, but my photo is featured on a cover variant for this year’s Focus on Nevada - The Photo Issue magazine. And that’s something truly special.
To honor that, and to bolster the feelings of mystery and discovery in the desert southwest, I’m releasing 25 Limited Edition copies of this photo.
