Fire in the Night Sky

Believe it or not, I could hardly see the light pollution cresting just over the mountain when I was on location. As a nightscape photographer, light pollution is something I actively try to avoid. However, sometimes it helps the image - even if by accident.

The plan for this shoot was to wait a little closer to dawn, when the Galactic Core was higher in the sky. As I arrived on scene I wanted to try and get a panorama image. My first panorama of the night sky. And this is the result.

Usually, these photos are strategically and meticulously planned. But sometimes, taking a photograph on a feeling makes it something truly magical.

The Fire in the Sky comes from the blend of orange light pollution meeting the natural oranges and browns in the Milky Way core, creating a marriage between the infinite and Earth.
